Are you depresed? Running out of joy? ready to give up?
What really happened in Cana?

In every wedding, the most important persons are the bride and the bridegroom, whenever you hear the word wedding; it is always followed by two names. But in this wedding the names of the bride and the bridegroom are not mentioned at all. The bridegroom is barely mentioned. Have you ever wondered why? It is because wherever Jesus went, he was the most important person. Jesus was invited to the wedding with his disciples. Jesus had disciples even before performing his first miracle. He was known as a great teacher. Mary went to the wedding before Jesus did. It is the habit in the Middle East that when you have a wedding the relatives come and help. Women used to go days before the wedding to help prepare the food. Mary, who was willing to help her relative Elizabeth, was also in Cana helping too. Since she was most likely helping she was the first person to notice that they ran out of wine. Wine was the most important thing to offer in weddings. It was a symbol of joy. Running out of wine was a big problem. Knowing that she could rely on her son who has the power to do something, Mary went to Jesus, telling Him, they had no wine. Mary did not instruct Jesus what to do. She did not say, go get some wine, or send your disciples to bring some wine. Mary only told her son the situation. She trusted his wisdom to solve this problem. Do we come to Christ with our problems in the same manner, or do we keep suggesting our own ideas to God? Do we act as if God needs our help to solve our problems or do we just pour our hearts to Him? We read in verse 4 “Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? Mine hour is not yet come.” Some think that Jesus’ answer was not kind to Mary. Some people think that addressing her, woman, is not respectful. We should understand this in light of the Bible culture. When Jesus was on the cross his heart was full of love and compassion toward his mother he also addressed her woman John 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son ! So the way he addressed his mother did not hold any disrespect in any way. He is the One who taught us to honor our parents. Jesus answered with a positive manner that made Mary realize that Jesus was going to do something. As a result Mary said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." John 2:5 There stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, this kind of stone water jars were used for the washing before eating, or before praying. Jesus structured the servants to fill the jars up with water; the servants filled them to the brim. We see here that the servants listened to Jesus.
Jesus did not perform any miracle before. Then why did the servant listen to Jesus? There are several reasons, Mary spoke with confidence to the servant to listen to her son, people had high respect for Mary, and the most important reason was that Jesus spoke with an authority that made them obey Him. The miracle took place right away. The water was transformed instantly into wine. The miracle happened because Jesus was there, and because the servants obeyed. Do not expect miracles or power in your life if you are not living in obedience to the Lord.
But what was the kind of that wine? Was it the same wine that makes people drunk? No way. It was the kind of wine that made people wake up, and recognize that this was a good wine, if they were drunk they would not have the brain that could recognize. Then He told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." The master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He thought this is the best. He was not used to see people giving the best till last; he was used to people doing the opposite. The master of the banquet wanted to express his appreciation. But he went to the wrong person. He called the bridegroom aside and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."
The surprising thing is that the bridegroom took the credit for what Jesus did. Thanking the wrong person for the goodness we have is something we might do. We give ourselves the credits for our talents, we brag about our intelligence, and achievements. We tend to forget that the only one who should take the credit for any good in our lives is Jesus.
When the wine jars were empty, people thought that the joy is gone, are you running out of wine? The worldly joy? Jesus wants you to know that He has the real joy that the world will never and can never bring into your life. The joy that made Paul and Silas rejoice and sing inside the prison, the joy that Made Paul say from the prison: “Rejoice in the Lord Always and again I say rejoice” Did you try all ways to be happy and you ended up depressed and lonely ? why don’t you try to come to the cross, experience the love of God , the forgiveness, and the real peace, the peace with God that without it , our lives will remain in misery.
